Acupuncture in York and Wetherby
Amanda Macnamara, BA(Hons) Lic.Ac., MBAcC
Acupuncture is a tried and tested system of medicine. The Chinese and other Eastern cultures have been using acupuncture to restore, promote and maintain good health for thousands of years.
Although I treat a wide variety of conditions with Acupuncture, I have a special interest in female and male infertility and all aspects of women’s health including period problems, endometriosis, PCOS and pregnancy care. I have had great success in treating couples struggling to conceive – both when they’re trying naturally and when undergoing Assisted Reproductive Therapies such as IVF.
I use a very gentle needling technique, with the highest quality disposable needles so that your session is a thoroughly relaxing experience. I stay with you for the duration of the session and I may incorporate moxa, acupressure massage, cupping therapy, Indian head massage, Hara massage and Tuina (www.tuinauk.com) into your treatments. Together we will look at your diet and lifestyle and I may prescribe you ‘homework’ to help you address the imbalances that may be affecting your health. I also work closely with renowned Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner and herbalist, Errol Lynch who will prescribe Chinese Herbs for you should you need them.
I am a fully qualified acupuncturist having obtained my degree in Acupuncture from Oxford Brooks University in 2004. I trained in Five Element Acupuncture at the College of Traditional Acupuncture (Leamington) where I achieved a ‘First’ for my dissertation researching the effect of Acupuncture on Essential Hypertension (high blood pressure). I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council (www.acupuncture.org.uk) which is the UK's main regulatory body for the practice of traditional acupuncture, and as such I am bound by strict codes of ethics and practice I am trained in Emergency First Aid and undertake at least 30 hours of Continual Professional Development annually which ensures that your treatment is based on the most up-to-date research and techniques available.
